Volunteering at the Bendigo District RSL –Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Bendigo RSL. We welcome new people to join our dedicated volunteer team at Bendigo.
Volunteer roles at Bendigo RSL mainly centre on fundraising through selling badges just before ANZAC DAY and selling poppies prior to REMEMBRANCE DAY.
Each year, in the lead up to ANZAC Day on 25th April, the Bendigo District RSL runs its ANZAC Appeal to raise much needed funds for veterans and their families around Central Victoria. The Bendigo District RSL conducts its annual Poppy Appeal from early in November until the 11th November.
Sellers generally follow a roster and sell at larger shopping centres and other outlets around Bendigo. Our Appeals Officer may also require assistance to assemble, pack and deliver merchandise trays to local schools and businesses before and after the appeals, and to collect the proceeds and remaining stock after our appeals.
Individuals interested in volunteering should email us at appeals@bendigorsl.com.au or click the link below to register your interest.
If your business would like to assist, please contact the Appeals Team via email at appeals@bendigorsl.com.au or by phoning the Sub-Branch Office on 5442 2950.
Your assistance is invaluable and greatly appreciated by the Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch Inc. Committee and members, and by the many local Veterans and families who receive help and support throughout the year.

For ANZAC DAY and REMEMBRANCE DAY our volunteers may be called on to assist at our annual commemorative services and Bendigo RSL has an extremely popular ANZAC ceremony designed just for local primary, secondary and special schools as we see educating younger generations as a vital task in supporting our community. Additionally, our Memorabilia Officer is always looking to add to his volunteer guide list.
We are always seeking people who can freely offer their time, trade or professional qualifications to assist us to make Bendigo RSL a better veterans support and community place to enjoy.

In 2024, the RSL once again asks Victorians to come together and remember not just those we lost in defence of Australia across various conflicts, but to also show their support of all who served, and continue to serve, their country as members of the Australian Defence Force.

Ann Merry
Welfare & Charitable Sub-Committee member
Ann has been an active and engaged member of the Welfare & Charitable Sub-Committee for 7 years. She has been especially involved in the Home and Hospital Visiting Program. During a period of considerable disruption owing to the pandemic, she has conducted many visits in her own private capacity bringing support and encouragement to many veterans and their families. She is a strong and informed member of the Sub-Committee providing many suggestions and recommendations for improvements to the work of the Sub-Committee and the Sub-Branch as a whole. Ann also helps out with veteran hospital visits and has help delivered Xmas presents to veterans. Ann is a highly motivated member who sets an excellent example to other members of the Sub-Committee, and she is to be commended for her efforts over many years.
Thank you Ann Merry we appreciate all your contributions and volunteer dedication.
Ian Ray
Funeral Officer
Over many years Ian has been instrumental in the ongoing support for veterans’ funerals. Over the last three years, he has been the single person who has conducted the funerals where possible due to COVID and the loss of other volunteers.
Ian has always been very professional in conducting veterans’ funeral and on many occasions has been asked to conduct funerals at very short notice. He is a credit to the BDRSL Sub-Branch and embodies the principles of “volunteering”. We strongly believe this needs to be acknowledged.
Thank you Ian, we appreciate all your contributions and volunteer dedication
Warm regards The Bendigo District RSL Sub- Branch committee.
